If someone told you in advance what you were destined to do and be, would you want to know? Fate has a funny way of picking you up, shaking you out, and sending you head first into a world filled with danger. It is lurking in the shadows, I kid you not.

The Light Tamer The Light Tamer Trilogy Book 1 eBook Devyn Dawson

Book Review- The Light Tamer by Devyn Dawson

Jessie Lucente has to move from New York to North Carolina. She is anything but thrilled. She is reunited with childhood friend Caleb Baldwin. Things are very different about him. He is truly hot and they are bonded. He explains that it happened when they were younger.
She is a Light Tamer, a descendant from an original. She is powerful. Fate is watching out for her but the dark is also after her. Erebus tries to get to her through Amber. Jessie has to embrace her new reality and her powers in order to send Erebus back to the Underworld. Caleb, Amber and Jessie have to step up to protect the Light Tamers.
The idea of this book was interesting. At first I was a bit confused where this story was going to go. The writing may have been a part of that. There was a bit of one dimensional quality in parts of the story. It didn’t always flow smoothly. I felt it kind of skimmed the top instead of deepening the storyline a bit. I like the storyline and the characters. So I will definitely check out the next book to see what happens next. The author could take it in any direction. I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

The Light Tamer The Light Tamer Trilogy Book 1 eBook Devyn Dawson Reviews

I really wanted to like this one. I liked the characters and the concept of the light tamers, but the story just fell flat. I felt like no one in the story even knew what was going on. Jessie and Caleb are so cute, and Amber is hilarious but I don't think i can do another whole book like this. The dialogue just didn't flow and I felt like everyone heat jumping topics like they all had ADD even Miss Gayle. The editing was really bad too, missing words extra words, just bad. I'm not sure I have ever rated a book this low I'm usually pretty good at selecting books that get a four or better from me. At least it was a free.
This YA paranormal is a great story about a group of kids who combine their special gifts to fight darkness and evil. Its romantic as well as mythological aspects mix contemporary setting with ancient greek mythology in a different way. Perhaps after exploring the rest of the series, I would have enjoyed the first one more. The author dumped way too many characters, backstory, instantaneous 'love' too quickly. She has her two main characters falling in love after one evening of initial attraction and a conversation on the beach. The girl went from "This guy is hot" to "We're bonded for eternity. I love you" between snacks the night before and breakfast the next morning. By the way there wasn't any contact between the characters overnight. I was introduced to the fates, the light tamers, lots of them, the dark ones, led by an ancient Greek God from the underworld, and a significant bad relationship from her past being prettified in a single scene. Her new best friend is almost as instantaneous as her boyfriend although the best friend is crude, out of control, and the most distinct of the characters. I was able to read the first chapter of book two and it looks promising, but so did the beginning of book 1. If you read YA for the stresses of falling in love as a teenager then you might enjoy this book. If you like references to mythology in contemporary literature, you may enjoy The Light Tamer
This book starts off with a great concept for me, light tamer’s. It’s an original idea and so it had garnered my attention. Unfortunately it lost me pretty quick. I hate to not finish a book and so I pushed on but it was ruff going.

I have a couple of pet peeves and this book started off immediately with one of them. I hate insta love! I could have over looked this due to the fact that it is a plot point however the entire book just has the two main characters pawing at each other continuously and it became over done.

The second thing that I have a problem with is information dump. An original idea can go wrong if it’s not introduced properly. It does take some finesse and handling which can be hard because you want to keep the audience’s attention. The entire light tamer world is explained in a fail swoop that left me feeling numb. And of course the main protagonist automatically believes every word and doesn’t question a thing.

Now there is evil out there wanting to steel the light and should be mortally terrifying for the light tamer however it just never reached that ominous feeling that it should have.
With all of that being said I ultimately just felt like the book was rushed. More time and development could have fixed most of the problems.

While I did have some problems with the over all story I have to concede that I liked the characters. Amber who is the side kick ended up being my favorite. She puts on a front of being a hard ass to protect herself from being hurt but her overall her corkiness won me over.

fascinatingly enough I started to read the excerpt for the second book in the trilogy and surprisingly it captured my attention and has the makings of a great book. Now that the concept is introduced it could get interesting.
