Cassidy has had a crush on Chad since forever and she’s trying to get him to notice her, but it only results in some really awkward situations. Lol. And I loved it! It’s absolutely hilarious! Janette Rallison is so good at writing these sort of scenes. I felt super embarrassed for the characters, but also I could not stop laughing!Anyway, Cassidy’s best friend just moved away and a new girl, Elsie, moves into that house with her family. Including a hot older brother, Josh.
Josh was the sweetest thing ever! I definitely preferred him over Chad, to be honest. Cassidy was so fixated on Chad when a much better guy was right in front of her. I just loved him! And he was such a sweet, loving brother too.

“I’m Josh Benson.” He nodded over to a table where Olivia and Abby had gone back to dipping their cookies into the bowl of frosting. “Those are my sisters. Unless they’re misbehaving, and then they’re Elise’s sisters.”

And since we’re on the subject of characters, two side characters, Samantha and Chelsea, actually have their own book in the sequels of this Pullman High series (Pullman being a town in Washington and I live in WA, so that’s pretty cool)! I really liked the characters—they were fun and very relatable! Plus, Cassidy and Josh? So much YES! They were so cute together! This whole book was freaking cute! I never thought I’d say this, but I really liked this contemporary book! I never used to read contemporaries because they’re just too everyday-life for me. But I loved Janette Rallison’s other paranormal books, and her writing in general, so I had to give her contemporaries a chance. And I do not regret it one bit! She just writes the most sweetest romances and I love it!
In addition to being super cute, the story was also very fun and actually quite realistic in what a teen would go through in their life.

“We’ve learned you can’t trust fairy godmothers to get you to the ball. If you want to go someplace in life, you have to get there yourself.”

My one gripe with this book is that it ends almost abruptly! Other reviews mention this as well, and I totally agree! Everything does get resolved at the end, but there is no real falling action—things aren’t wrapped up nicely with a bow. It just sort of... stops. But hey, I got his book for free when it was a freebie on Amazon one time, so I can’t really complain too much! I really liked this first book in this series so I’m excited for the other two books!

Blue Eyes and Other Teenage Hazards edition by Janette Rallison Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
My Summary Cassidy's best friend Anjie moved just before their sophomore year. Cassidy and Anjie had been best friends since 2nd grade when Anjie moved into the neighborhood a few houses down. Cassidy has to deal with the loss of her best friend and trying to befriend the new girl, Elise, who moved into Anjie's old house, but she and Elise don't exactly get off to a great start.
I loved this book all over again! This was rewritten from her book, Deep Blue Eyes and Other Lies, published 16 years ago. Janette Rallison cannot go wrong in my mind. Her books are always enjoyable and so funny with cute romances. It was fun to read a familiar book with a some new twists. The characters are funny and easy to relate to.
One of my favorite scenes was when Cassidy took her driver's test, hilarious! The old man that administered her test reminded me of a guy I had to drive with during driver's ed. He was totally paranoid and would grab the steering wheel from me and slam on his brake all the time. I promise I'm not a bad driver; the poor man was just terrified.
I actually read All's Fair in Love, War, and High School before this book because I didn't know it was in the same series. When I was reading it and Cassidy meets Josh I was thinking, "Wait Josh? The same Josh that Samantha talks about?" Turns out it is the same Josh. Now I know what was going on in the other book. Sometimes you should actually read a series in order. I liked Blue Eyes and Other Teenage Hazards. It was fun to meet Cassidy and Elise. They kind of reminded me of myself and one of my friends. They are mentioned in one of the squeals and I liked delving into their lives more. As always it was another fun Janette Rallison book!
Cassidy's best friend moves away their sophomore year and Cassidy hopes the new family moving in will have a girl her age. They do, but Elise isn't actually what Cassidy is looking for in a friend. Elise is all about partying and wants Cassidy to losen up. Elise's older brother Josh is a senior and he's like the big brother Cassidy never had. Elise comes from a big family and Cassidy is envious, she's an only child. Cassidy has a big crush on Chad Warren who has blue eyes. Elise helps her talk with him but Cassidy isn't very good at flirting. When Elise keeps getting into trouble Cassidy thinks it will be best not to be her friend. Josh talks her into staying friends with Elise because she needs good influences. Josh (who also has beautiful blue eyes) has all these logical rules about dating sophomores since he leaves for college next year. Cassidy is smart and extremely naive but she isn't judgmental and I think it's a great trait and especially for Elise who's trying to find her place in life.
This was a cute coming-of-age story. While there are references to drinking, drugs, and teenage sex, it's actually a clean book. Someone is accused of sleeping around, but they did not, and the things that do happen are clearly portrayed in an unattractive light.
I found the main character Cassidy (from whose perspective the story is told) to be likable and occasionally relatable, even though she is a very different kind of person than I am. I especially appreciated that the point of the story wasn't to become more popular, which I find a lot of contemporary YA tries to do. Though she made mistakes, she was earnest and sincere throughout, and was true to herself. I thought one of the main characters (Josh) to be very well portrayed and believable. I rarely hear anything but my own voice when reading in my head, but several of his lines of dialogue sounded like a young man's voice, a testament to his believability. His final scene—in spite of my enjoyment of it—seemed a little out of character to me (too forward), but otherwise I thought he was well written.
I am an adult who enjoys YA and I'd consider this a fluffy but fun read. I easily finished this in a day, including interruptions. I probably would have loved it had I read it as a teen.
